Anant Singh
Founder & Principal Designer, Woodpecker Interior Design
I started Woodpecker Interior Design in 2005 not just to design spaces, but to touch lives. For me,
interiors have always been emotional—how a room makes you breathe easier, feel safer, or finally
say, “Yes, this is mine.” That feeling is what I chase in every project.
With over twenty years in this field, I’ve learned that true beauty lies in balance—international
elegance wrapped in the warmth of our Indian way of living. I pour myself into every detail, staying
present from the first sketch to the final handover, because every space I design carries a part of me.
Timelines, finishing, budgets—these matter, but what matters most is that a client feels understood.
Inspired by the churches and synagogues of medieval Europe, this Gurudwara in Kolkata was envisioned to have a grand scale and ethereal feel. We are profoundly happy to have shared our journey, "Stumbling Into Infinity!" with all of you. We will be eternally grateful to have walked this creative path with Gurudwara Sant Kutiya, Kolkata!
Throwback to the making of this beautiful Gurudwara in Kolkata, depicting our deepest gratitude to Woodpecker Interior Design team members who worked with their skilled hands to contribute towards the making of the timeless interiors of the Darbar Hall! The space was given to us as a bare shell, and we designed it to reflect an aura of serenity, inviting visitors to relax and meditate. Here everything is elegant and subtle, emanating a soft glow, so visitors can feel completely cushioned in divine love.
Impeccable Craftsmanship is the essence of our work as we work closely with our very skilled artisans to curate bespoke spaces! Hand crafted details, work in progress! Real people behind the scene and our team in action. The design of the sanctum was supervised along each step to make sure the detailing was perfect and labour of love being the main ingredient of this masterpiece at the Darbar Hall.
The addition of backlit stained glass windows is a unique feature and along with the soft lighting from the roof, adds a warm, magical touch to the space. A multi-layered ceiling in the centre creates drama and the feeling of grandeur, while those laid out near the edges make the space look wider. Soaring double ceiling height further adds style and statement to this spectacular Darbar Hall. Backlit laser cut patterned design running vertically and horizontally around the main hall, adds a strong decorative element, creating a strong visual impact.
A black crystal chandelier with a motif
wall paper in the corridor blends Indian
and Oriental styles.
The vintage style furniture with assorted
patterned cushions make the interiors
look ‘mindfully mismatched’.
